Comments: This seed is collected from red-flowering parents. We are told the % that comes true to parent type is 50%. Those that show the parents characteristics will vary from light pink to red in flower color. Other growers inform us that as the trees age many will tend to revert back to the white parent type. You may be able to key seedlings in the seedbed that are true to parent type by darker colored new growth on the leaves, stems and petioles. White flowered plants new growth tends to be light green. This tree is self infertile and must cross pollinate to produce viable seed. Seed source dictates cold hardiness of seedlings. Southern USA source seed can not be grown in cold areas up North or freeze damage will occur. Northern source seed can be sown in Southern areas and grown to be re-sold in Northern areas as hardy seedlings.. What is important is the genetics of the seed source you are using. Very Important.
Germination info: Seed requires 90-120 days cold moist stratification.
A Trial Packet contains a minimum of 5 - 30 seeds depending on the size of the selected seed.
